Treatments

Six ways we restore or refine a smile.

Each one below says what it is, how many visits it takes, how long it tends to last and the usual fee range in the Nova Scotia fee guide. Your exact cost is written down after an exam.

Crowns and bridges

A crown is a porcelain or ceramic cap that covers a tooth weakened by a large filling, a crack or root canal treatment. A bridge uses crowns on the teeth either side of a gap to hold a replacement tooth in between.

We match the shade in daylight in the consultation room, not under the treatment light.

Visits
Two, about two weeks apart. A temporary crown in between.
Lasts
Often 10 to 15 years or more with good care. Grinding and gum health make a difference.
Fee
$1,300 to $1,800 per crown
$3,800 to $5,200 for a three-unit bridge

Implant crowns

An implant replaces a missing root. We do not place implants ourselves: we refer you to an oral surgeon we work with closely, who places the implant and quotes for that part. Once it has healed, usually three to six months later, we design, make and fit the crown that sits on top.

Visits
Two or three with us after healing, plus the surgeon's appointments.
Lasts
The crown often 10 to 15 years; the implant itself can last much longer when gums are healthy.
Fee
$2,200 to $2,900 for the abutment and crown

Veneers

Thin porcelain facings bonded to the front of teeth to change their shape, length or colour, or to close small gaps. Some enamel is removed, so veneers are a permanent choice; we talk through whether whitening, bonding or aligners would get you most of the way first.

Before any tooth is touched, you try a mock-up of the new shape in your own mouth and look at it in the mirror.

Visits
Three: planning and mock-up, preparation, fitting.
Lasts
Often 10 to 15 years or more. Chips can sometimes be repaired.
Fee
$1,400 to $2,000 per tooth

Whitening

Custom trays made from impressions of your teeth, with a whitening gel you wear at home for a couple of weeks. Or one supervised session in the studio, followed by trays for top-ups. Whitening does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings, which matters if you plan both.

Visits
One or two, plus a short check.
Lasts
Months to a few years. Coffee, tea, red wine and smoking shorten it.
Fee
$450 to $600 take-home trays
$650 to $850 in-studio session with trays

Clear aligners

A series of clear, removable trays, each one moving your teeth a little. You wear them most of the day and night and change to the next set every week or two. Suitable for crowding, spacing and many bite issues; we will tell you honestly if braces would do a better job.

Visits
A check every 6 to 10 weeks. Treatment takes 6 to 18 months.
Lasts
The result holds as long as you wear a retainer, usually at night, for the long term.
Fee
$4,500 to $7,500 depending on complexity, retainers included

Full-mouth plans

For people with several worn, broken or missing teeth, or a bite that has collapsed over time. We combine the treatments above into one sequenced plan, usually over several months, and split it into stages you approve and pay for one at a time.

Gum treatment, when needed, is done first by a periodontist we refer you to.

How staged plans work
Visits
Planned per stage, usually over 3 to 12 months.
Lasts
Depends on the treatments chosen; each is explained in your plan.
Fee
Quoted per stage in your written estimate

Checkups for existing patients

Once you have had treatment with us, we keep looking after it: an exam, a cleaning with our hygienist, and X-rays when they are due. We focus our time on restorative and cosmetic care, so we do not take new patients for checkups alone.

Visits
Usually every 6 or 12 months.
Lasts
Ongoing care for the work we have done.
Fee
$220 to $320 exam and cleaning, per the fee guide

A note on fees and coverage.

These ranges are a guide. Your exact cost is written down after an exam. Insurance usually covers part of crowns and bridges and very little of cosmetic treatment; we send a pre-treatment estimate to your insurer so you know your share before you decide.

Ask us whether your treatment is covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan.
