Classes

Eight classes, two rooms, one pace: unhurried

Every class below runs at normal room temperature and tops out at ten people. Here is the level, the length and what actually happens in each one.

Reformer Pilates

Intro to Reformer

Level
Everyone's first class
Length
50 min
Room
Reformer room, up to 6

How the machine works: the carriage, the springs, the footbar and the straps. We set the reformer to your height, teach the handful of moves the other classes build on, and watch how you move so we can suggest where to go next. Required once for every new client, whatever you plan to take after.

  • Lots of pauses to explain
  • Light springs
  • Time for questions at the end

Reformer, Open Level

Level
After your intro
Length
50 min
Room
Reformer room, up to 10

Our main class. A full-body session at a steady pace: footwork to warm up, then legs, arms, back and core, and a long stretch on the way out. The teacher gives an easier and a harder version of most moves, so someone in their first month and someone in their fifth year can share the room.

  • Steady pace
  • Two options for most moves
  • You will feel your legs

Reformer, Slow Flow

Level
After your intro
Length
55 min
Room
Reformer room, up to 10

The same machine at half the speed. Longer holds, lighter springs, more stretching and more time to notice what each side is doing. A good choice on a heavy week, or if you like the reformer but not the tempo of a full class.

  • Slow transitions
  • Long stretches
  • Quiet music
In the mat room

Mat Pilates and slow yoga

No machines, just mats, bolsters, blocks and small props. Everything is laid out for you, so you can arrive with nothing but water.

Mat Pilates

  • All levels
  • 45 min
  • Up to 10

Classical mat work with a ring, a small ball and a band. Plenty of core and back work, lying, kneeling and sitting. Without springs you learn to do the work yourself, which makes your reformer classes better too.

Slow Yoga

  • All levels
  • 60 min
  • Unheated

Unhurried standing and floor poses linked with steady breathing. Blocks and straps are out for everyone, and using them is just sensible. Expect to hold poses long enough to settle into them.

Restorative Yoga

  • All levels
  • 75 min
  • Mon and Sun

Five or six supported shapes held for several minutes each on bolsters and blankets. Very little effort and a lot of stillness, with the lights low and no music. It runs on Monday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

Prenatal Mat

  • From the second trimester
  • 45 min
  • Up to 8

Gentle Pilates-based mat work for pregnancy: breathing, hips, upper back and side-lying strength, with positions changed for each stage. Tell your teacher how far along you are each time you come.

Please check with your doctor or midwife before you start, and again if anything changes.

Private reformer sessions

Any, including brand new
Length

$110 per session, or $150 for two people

One teacher, one reformer, your hour. People use privates to learn the machine faster before joining open classes, to work around an old injury their physiotherapist has cleared them to train with, to prepare for a race or a hike, or simply to have the room to themselves. A private can count as your intro class.

What we don't do

No hot yoga

Every room is kept at normal room temperature, for every class. If you're after a heated class, we're happy to point you to a studio that does it well.

No rehab or treatment

Our teachers adapt exercises for sore knees, stiff backs and old injuries, but they don't diagnose or treat anything. If something needs treatment we'll suggest seeing a physiotherapist, and we're glad to work around the plan they give you.

If you have a health condition or an injury, or you are pregnant, please check with your doctor before your first class. Our teachers adapt exercises, but they don't treat injuries.
