Your first visit
What to expect, step by step.
A first visit is longer than a follow-up, because it's where we get to know the problem properly. Here's how it usually goes.
Seven steps
From first call to follow-up.
Nothing is decided for you. At each step you'll know what we're doing and why.
- Step 01
Request a visit
Send the short form or call us. We'll call you back to find a time and ask a few quick questions so you see the right clinician.
- Step 02
Arrive and check in
Please arrive ten minutes early. We're on the ground floor at 5 Harbourview Drive, Unit 2, with a step-free entrance and parking out front.
- Step 03
Talk it through
Your clinician asks how the problem started, what makes it better or worse, and - most importantly - what you want to get back to.
- Step 04
Examination
We look at movement, strength and stability, and often at how you walk or move in your sport. Comfortable clothes make this easier.
- Step 05
Imaging, only if it helps
We review any scans you already have. If an X-ray, ultrasound or MRI would change the plan, we'll explain why and arrange a referral.
- Step 06
A written plan
You leave with your diagnosis explained in plain language, your options, and clear next steps - written down so you can share it.
- Step 07
Follow-up
Most plans continue with physiotherapy and check-ins. If surgery is worth discussing, your surgeon will go through it with you separately.
Before you come
Bring, check, ask.
What to bring
- Your health card and any extended health plan details
- A referral letter, if you have one
- A list of the medications you take
- Previous scan reports, or where they were done
- Shorts or loose clothing, and the shoes you train in
- The questions you want answered
Referrals
You can book physiotherapy directly, without a referral.
A consultation with a surgeon usually needs a referral from your family doctor or another physician. If you're not sure what you need, call us and we'll help you work it out.
Insurance and payment
Coverage depends on the service and on your plan. Many extended health plans include physiotherapy, and some ask for a physician's referral first.
We recommend checking with your provider before your visit. We'll give you an itemised receipt to submit.
After your visit
Questions don't stop at the door.
If something in your plan isn't clear once you're home, call or email the clinic. We'd rather you ask than guess.
If your symptoms change suddenly or you're worried, contact your family doctor. In an emergency, call 911.
