How we price

You know the number before the van leaves.

Locksmithing has a reputation problem, and most of it comes from one trick: a tiny price on the phone, a big bill at the door. Here is exactly how we do it instead.

  1. The quote on the phone

You tell us the lock, the car or the job. We give you one firm total, with the call-out in it, and a range for arrival. Not "from", not "per hour".

  2. The quote at the door

We look at the lock and say the price again, out loud, before any tool comes out. If it matches the phone, it is usually the same number.

  3. Your OK

Nothing starts until you say yes. Say no and you pay the call-out only: $79 by day, $129 at night.

  4. Pay when it works

Card, tap or e-transfer once the door opens or the car starts. You get a written receipt with our business name on it.

What can change it

Only what we could not know on the phone.

If one of these comes up, we stop, give you the new total and wait for your OK.

The lock is not the one described
A high-security deadbolt instead of a standard one, or a second lock nobody mentioned.
Picking fails and drilling is the only way
Rare, but it means a new cylinder. Usually $60 to $140 more.
The car needs a different key
Trim levels of the same model can use different fobs. We check the VIN on site.
You add work
Rekeying the back door too, or a spare key while we are there.

The scam to watch for

The "$19 service call" bait-and-switch.

How it works

  • An ad or a call centre quotes a very low "service call" and will not say a total.
  • An unmarked car arrives, often from a dispatch company in another province.
  • The lock is drilled straight away, "because it is high security".
  • The bill is $300 to $600, and cash is preferred.

How to avoid it, with anyone

  • Ask for the total, not the service call. A real locksmith can give you one.
  • Ask the business name and where they are based, then check it.
  • Say no to drilling until they have tried to pick the lock.
  • Get the price in writing before work, and a receipt after.

Ask us for a total.

We will give you one on the phone, day or night, with nothing hidden in it.
