How we help

Each step, in plain words

We do the lifting, the lists and the phone calls. You make the decisions that are yours to make, and only those.

Plan

What we do

  • Visit your home and listen: who's moving, why, and by when.
  • Measure the new home, or work from the builder's or residence's plans.
  • Draw a floor plan showing where your furniture goes and what won't fit.
  • Write a timeline back from moving day, with every booking on it.

What you decide

Which rooms matter most, and which pieces you can't imagine living without. The plan is a draft until you say it's right.

Sort

What we do

  • Work room by room in sessions of two to three hours, so nobody gets worn out.
  • Set up four places: keep, family, donate, sell.
  • Photograph things family members might want and send them the pictures.
  • Take donations to local charities and arrange dump runs.

What you decide

What stays and what goes. We'll tell you if something won't fit, but we never decide for you.

Pack

What we do

  • Pack china, glass and pictures properly, with paper and the right boxes.
  • Label every box with the room it's going to in the new home, and number it.
  • Keep a first-night box: kettle, mugs, medication, glasses, sheets, the phone charger.
  • Leave you a working kitchen until the last day.

What you decide

What you'd like to pack yourself. Some people want to wrap the photographs with their own hands, and that's fine.

Move

What we do

  • Book and run our partner moving crew, who carry and drive.
  • Book the elevator and loading zone at the new building.
  • Stay with you, or drive you ahead to the new place, so you're not standing in an empty house.
  • Walk the old home at the end: nothing left in closets, keys where they should be.

What you decide

Where you'd like to spend moving day. Some people stay for every box; others spend it with a friend and arrive to a finished home.

Set up

What we do

  • Place the furniture from the floor plan, and move it again if it feels wrong.
  • Make the bed and set out towels in the bathroom.
  • Unpack the kitchen so you can make tea and dinner that night.
  • Hang pictures, set up the TV and lamps, and take the empty boxes away.

What you decide

Where the pictures go. We hold them up, you say left a bit, and we hang them.

Honestly

What we don't do

We know where our job ends. When you need one of these, we'll point you to people who do it well.

Appraise antiques or collections
We don't put a value on furniture, art, silver or stamps. A certified appraiser should.
Run estate sales
We help sell a few pieces online. For a full sale of the contents, we refer you to an estate sale company.
Give legal or financial advice
Wills, powers of attorney, selling the house, paying for a residence: these belong with your lawyer, notary or financial planner.
