Within Kelowna most residential lots can't have wood fires, so nearly every fire feature we build runs on natural gas or propane: a certified burner in a stone or block surround, with a licensed gas fitter making the connection and getting it inspected. Outside city limits we can build a wood-burning ring where the local rules allow it.
We size the paved area so chairs can push back from the heat: about 4 m across for four to six people. A seat wall around one side holds the slope and gives extra seating without more furniture.
Always check the current fire rules for your address. We will tell you what we know, but the city has the final word.
Outdoor kitchens
A grill counter built like a wall.
Our kitchens are block-built islands with a stone or concrete top, set on a proper footing so they don't shift with frost. You bring the grill you love, or we spec one that fits.

Steps and paths
Steps you don't have to think about.
Outdoor steps should be lower and deeper than indoor ones. We aim for a 150 mm rise and a tread of at least 380 mm, with solid granite or thick precast treads set on a compacted base so they never rock.
Paths get the same base as a patio, edged so they keep their line, and wide enough for a wheelbarrow: 1.1 m for the main walk, 0.9 m for side yards.
