Services

Seven kinds of work, one careful crew.

Below is what we do most weeks, the jobs that fill a typical list, and the honest limits of each. If your job isn't here, ask anyway: if it isn't ours, we'll point you to someone good.

No. 01

Carpentry and trim

Trim is where a room looks finished or doesn't. We cope inside corners, scribe to wavy walls and fill nail holes so the paint hides them, and we cut on site so pieces fit the room you actually have.

Typical jobs

  • Baseboard and door casing, new or replaced after flooring
  • Crown moulding and window stools
  • Stair treads, nosings, spindles and handrails
  • Closet shelving and simple built-ins
  • Repairing chewed, split or water-swollen trim

Good to know: we can match most stock profiles from the lumberyard. Older, custom profiles can sometimes be matched from a sample; we'll tell you at the estimate whether it's possible and what it costs.

No. 02

Drywall and painting

A good patch disappears. That takes thin coats, proper drying time and sanding with a light held across the wall, then primer and paint feathered out so the sheen matches. It's why a patch is usually two short visits rather than one long one.

Typical jobs

  • Doorknob holes, anchor holes and dents
  • Cracks over doors and windows, nail pops
  • Ceiling stains after a leak has been fixed
  • Cutting in an access panel and closing it after a trade
  • Painting single rooms, hallways, trim and doors

Good to know: if you have leftover paint, we'll use it. If not, bring us a chip or let us take one, and we'll have it matched. We paint rooms, not whole houses: for a full interior repaint, we'll recommend a painting company.

Doors and windows

Houses move with the seasons, and doors are the first thing to tell you. Most sticking or drifting doors are fixed at the hinges or strike plate, not with a plane, and we try the gentle fix first.

Typical jobs

  • Doors that stick, rub, swing open or won't latch
  • New handles, deadbolts and hinges
  • Interior door replacement in an existing frame
  • Weatherstripping and door sweeps for drafts
  • Window sills, screens, cranks and broken sash cords

Good to know: we don't install new exterior doors or replacement windows in new openings. That's a job for a window and door company, and we'll gladly suggest one.

No. 04

Mounting and installs

Anything heavy goes into studs or into the right anchor for your wall, whether that's drywall, plaster and lath, brick or tile. We check level twice and show you where we fixed it before we leave.

Typical jobs

  • TVs on walls and over fireplaces, cables hidden in a raceway or in-wall kit
  • Floating shelves, mirrors and art
  • Blinds, curtain rods and closet systems
  • Bathroom accessories, grab bars and medicine cabinets
  • Like-for-like light fixtures, switches and faucets

Good to know: a new outlet behind the TV is electrical work. We'll mount everything and leave the cable path ready for your electrician.

Sanding a weathered board on a horizontal slat fence
No. 05

Decks and fences

Wood outdoors in Ontario has a hard life. We replace what's failed and leave what's sound, so a deck with three soft boards doesn't turn into a new deck you didn't need.

Typical jobs

  • Rotten or split deck boards and stair treads
  • Wobbly railings made solid and safe
  • Leaning fence posts reset, broken boards and panels replaced
  • Gates re-hung so they close and latch
  • Cleaning and re-staining small decks

Good to know: before we dig for a post, we book a free utility locate through Ontario One Call. It can add a few days, and it's not optional. New decks over 60 cm off the ground need a permit; we repair, we don't build new ones.

A red-brick house with a white porch behind maple trees in autumn colour
No. 06

Seasonal maintenance

A half-day in spring and another in fall. We walk the house with a checklist, fix the small things on the spot, and give you a written note of anything that needs a bigger look, with photos.

In the fall

  • Weatherstripping, door sweeps and caulking checked
  • Outdoor taps shut off and drained
  • Downspouts and extensions pointed away from the foundation
  • Smoke and CO alarm batteries changed

In the spring

  • Screens back in and repaired
  • Deck, fence and railings checked after the frost
  • Exterior caulking and trim looked over
  • Furnace filter changed, dryer vent cleared

We don't clean eavestroughs on two-storey homes or work on roofs; we'll recommend a company that has the right equipment.

Driving screws into white-painted boards with a cordless drill
No. 07

Small repairs

The jobs that are too small to call anyone about, until there are eight of them. Put them on one list and we'll work through it in order, starting with whatever bothers you most.

Typical jobs

  • Squeaky stairs and floors, loose railings
  • Cabinet doors that drop, drawers that stick
  • Towel bars and toilet-paper holders pulled out of the wall
  • Re-caulking tubs, showers and backsplashes
  • Replacing a cracked tile or a broken threshold

Good to know: this is where the two-hour minimum works in your favour. Two hours covers a surprising number of small fixes.

Being straight with you

Work we refer to licensed trades

In Ontario, electrical work beyond swapping a fixture for the same kind needs a licensed electrician and an ESA permit, and gas work needs a licensed gas fitter. Plumbing behind the wall belongs with a plumber. We won't stretch on these, and you shouldn't want anyone who does.

  • New outlets, circuits, pot lights and panel work
  • Moving or adding plumbing lines and drains
  • Anything to do with gas appliances or lines
  • Roofing, structural changes and full renovations

On a mixed job, we'll do our part and coordinate the timing with the trade, so you aren't stuck in the middle. Ask us about your job.

Ready when you are
