Exam prep · September to June

Plan backward from the test date.

Cramming the night before rarely works in math and science. Tell us when the test is and we'll spread the work across the weeks you have.

Exact dates are set by your school, the BC Ministry of Education, the College Board and the IB, and they shift a little each year. We plan from the dates your school gives you.

Prep by type of test

Every few weeks

Unit tests

We work from the unit outline or the last quiz you got back. Two sessions before a test leaves time to find the gap and then practise it.

January and June

Finals

A review calendar counted back from the exam, with topics weighted by how much of the final they're worth and a timed practice paper in the last week.

Grade 10 · November, January, April, June

Graduation Numeracy Assessment

A BC graduation requirement that tests reasoning with numbers in real situations rather than one math course. We practise with the province's sample tasks and work on explaining answers in words, which is where marks slip.

Late April and May

AP and IB exams

Review starts in March: questions in the style of past papers, done timed, then marked against the way examiners award points. Free-response and paper 2 technique get their own sessions.

Worked example

How a prep plan comes together.

Every plan is written down and shared with the student and a parent before the second session, so everyone knows what the next few weeks look like.

Given
The test date, the unit outline or syllabus, recent quizzes or marked work, and how many weeks are left.
Find
The topics that cost the most marks, and the ones that only need a quick check.
Solution
Hard topics first, while there's time. Each session ends with three to five practice questions for before the next one. The final session is a timed run-through, then we go over every mistake.
∴
No grade promise. A plan, steady practice, and honest notes on what's still shaky.
