Kitchens

Kitchens planned down to the drawer.

From a refresh that keeps your layout to a full rebuild with a wall removed: what's included, what it usually costs here, and how many weeks you'll be without a sink.

Timeline

A full remodel, week by week

This is the usual shape of a nine-week job. Yours comes with real dates, and you sign it before demolition. Terracotta bars are waits we don't control: the city inspection and the counter fabricator.

Stage
Protection and demolitionWeek 1
Plumbing, electrical, venting rough-inWeek 2
City inspectionWeek 3, a wait we don't control
Insulation, drywall, paintWeeks 3 to 4
Flooring and cabinet installWeek 5
Counter template and fabricationWeeks 6 to 7, at the fabricator
Counters, sink, backsplashWeek 8
Trim, appliances, final inspection, walkthroughWeek 9

Cabinets usually take six to ten weeks to make. We order them when you sign and they are in our shop before demolition, so that wait happens while you still have a kitchen.

What moves the price

Six things that decide where you land

Cabinet construction
Stock boxes with custom doors, semi-custom, or fully custom. The biggest single line on most kitchen quotes.
Moving the sink or range
New drain routes and gas lines mean opening floors and a permit. Leaving them where they are saves real money.
Walls
A load-bearing wall adds an engineer, a beam and posts, and usually $12,000 or more.
Counter material
Quartz sits in the middle. Quartzite, marble and large porcelain slabs cost more to buy and to fabricate.
Venting
A hood ducted out through a brick wall costs more than one run through a nearby joist bay.
Old wiring
Knob-and-tube or a full panel has to be dealt with before a new kitchen can be powered.
