Questions
Questions people ask before the first lesson.
If yours isn't here, call or text (555) 555-0134. Asking first is a good idea, not a bother.
What to bring
What do I need for a lesson?
Your Ontario G1 or G2 licence, or your valid licence from home if you're still allowed to drive on it. Bring glasses or contacts if your licence says you need them, and wear comfortable flat shoes.
Do I need my own car?
No. Lessons are in our small automatic hatchback, which has a second brake on the instructor's side.
Do you teach on a manual car?
No, automatic only. Most Ontario road tests are taken in automatic cars.
Licence from another country
Can I drive on my licence from home?
New Ontario residents can usually drive on a valid licence from home for a short time after moving here, often 60 days. Check the exact rule for you with the licensing office.
Can you tell me if I can skip the G1 wait?
We'll explain how it usually works, but only the licensing office can decide, based on your documents. Our newcomers page lists the questions to ask them.
My licence isn't in English or French.
The licensing office will ask for an approved translation. They publish which translations they accept, so check before you pay for one.
Cancellations
How do I cancel or move a lesson?
Text or call at least 24 hours before. With less notice, the lesson costs half price.
What if I wake up too nervous to drive?
Text us, even an hour before. We can turn it into a shorter lesson that stays in the lot, or move it. Once per student, a same-day move for nerves costs nothing.
What about snow and ice?
If the roads are icy and you're just starting, we move the lesson at no cost. Later on, a snowy day in a quiet lot can be one of the most useful lessons you take.
Pick-up area
Where do you pick me up?
From home, work or school anywhere in Kitchener and Waterloo. Cambridge and Breslau are $10 extra per lesson.
Where is the quiet lot?
We use large lots that are empty at your lesson time, like an office-park lot in the evening or a school lot on a Saturday, close to where we pick you up.
When do lessons run?
Weekdays 8 am to 8 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 4 pm. Early Sunday highway lessons can be arranged.
Lesson languages
Which languages do you teach in?
English with every instructor, Spanish with Mariana and Arabic with Omar.
Is the road test in my language?
Ontario road tests are given in English or French. As test day gets closer, we practise the English words the examiner uses, while still explaining in your language.
Can someone come along?
Yes. A family member or friend can sit in the back for the first lesson if it helps you relax.
Still wondering about something?
Call or text and ask. Or send a lesson request with your question in it, and we'll answer when we call you back.
