Slow design, clearly done
Aster & Vale is a small studio at 14 Linden Row, Larkhaven. We take on a few homes at a time and stay with each one from the first visit to the final lamp.
A good room is quiet. It holds the light, it suits the people in it, and it is built from materials that age well.
- One
Life first
We design around routines: where coats land, where the light falls at breakfast, who reads where. Style follows.
- Two
Fewer, better materials
A short palette of honest materials (stone, oak, lime plaster, linen), used with conviction rather than variety.
- Three
Keep what matters
Inherited chairs, a favourite rug, the art you already own. The best rooms mix the new with what you love.
The process
Six stages. Smaller projects, like a colour consultation, use only the ones they need.
- Stage one
First conversation
A call or a visit to hear what you want to change, how you use your home and what you love in it already. No obligation.
- Stage two
Survey and brief
We measure and photograph every room, then write a brief together: priorities, timing, and the pieces you want to keep.
- Stage three
Concept
A layout, a palette and a physical sample board. This is where the direction is set, and where we expect you to push back.
- Stage four
Design development
Detailed drawings, joinery, lighting plans and a full specification of finishes, furniture and fixtures.
- Stage five
Ordering and trades
We place orders, track deliveries and work alongside your contractor, visiting site at the moments that matter.
- Stage six
Installation and styling
Furniture placed, lamps lit, art hung. We finish with a walk-through and stay on hand for anything that comes up.

Our sample library is open by appointment. Bring a photo of your room, and we will pull stone, timber and fabric to look at together.
