Heating
Furnaces and boilers
Repairs on every common make, replacements quoted in writing, and a straight answer on whether your old one is worth fixing.
Repairs
What we fix most winters
A daytime diagnostic is $119, applied to the repair if you go ahead on the same visit. You get the price before we pick up a tool.
- Igniters and flame sensors
- The usual reason a furnace clicks, tries, and gives up. Both are on every van.
- Inducer and blower motors
- Grinding, humming or a fan that won't start. We carry the common sizes.
- Venting and pressure switches
- High-efficiency furnaces shut off when the outside pipes frost over. We clear them and stop it happening again.
- Control boards
- Tested before replaced, so you don't pay for a board when the fault was a loose wire.
- Boiler pumps and zone valves
- Cold radiators in one part of the house, a noisy pump, or a pressure gauge that keeps climbing.
- Heat exchanger checks
- A camera inspection for cracks. If we find one, we shut the gas off and explain why in plain words.
Replacement
What a new furnace costs in Winnipeg
Typical installed prices for a detached house, including removal of the old unit, the permit, a new thermostat and normal venting changes. Your written quote is what you pay.
| System | Best for | Installed |
|---|---|---|
| 96% gas furnace, single-stage | Smaller homes and tighter budgets | $4,800 to $6,400 |
| 96% gas furnace, two-stage, variable-speed fan | Most Winnipeg houses; quieter, steadier heat | $6,200 to $8,300 |
| 98% modulating gas furnace | Larger or two-storey homes with uneven rooms | $8,000 to $10,800 |
| Condensing boiler | Homes heated by radiators or in-floor heat | $9,800 to $15,500 |
| Combi boiler (heat and hot water) | Replacing a boiler and a water tank together | $10,500 to $16,000 |
Add a central humidifier for $650 to $900 installed. Ask us about current utility and government rebates; we fill in the paperwork with you.
Repair or replace
Signs it's time for a new one
- It's 18 years old or more and needs a part again.
- This repair costs more than a third of a new furnace.
- The heat exchanger is cracked.
- Some rooms are always cold, even with the vents open.
- Your gas bills climb each winter with no change in use.
- A carbon monoxide alarm has gone off near it.
If two of these fit, ask us for a replacement quote along with the repair price. We'll give you both and you decide.
Hot-water heat
Boilers get their own technician
Two of our six vans are set up for hydronic systems: older cast-iron boilers in Wolseley and River Heights, and newer condensing boilers with in-floor heat.
A yearly boiler visit is $189. We check the burner and combustion, test the relief valve and expansion tank, look over the pump and zone valves, and bleed any radiator that's holding air.
