Costs

What a heat pump costs to put in, in plain numbers

These are typical installed prices from Halifax-area homes, before any rebate. They include equipment, labour, the line set, the outdoor stand and the electrical work. Your own price comes in writing after the assessment.

What moves the price up or down

Two houses on the same street can land at opposite ends of a range. These are the usual reasons.

The size the house needs

Set by the heat-loss calculation. A well-insulated house can need a smaller, cheaper unit than its size suggests.

Your electrical panel

Most houses have room for one more circuit. An older 60 or 100 amp panel may need work, which we price separately.

Line length and the route

A head on an outside wall right above the outdoor unit is simple. A head two floors up on an inside wall takes more copper and more hours.

The state of your ducts

Leaky or undersized ducts can be sealed or adjusted. If they need a full redesign, ductless often makes more sense.

Where the outdoor unit sits

A ground stand is standard. A wall bracket or a roof-line spot to clear deep snow adds to the cost.

The equipment brand and model

We quote cold-climate models only, from a short list we can stand behind and get parts for in Nova Scotia.

A plain note on rebates

Government and utility rebates for heat pumps in Nova Scotia change often: amounts move, programs open and close, and the rules on who qualifies shift with them. So we don't quote rebate amounts or take them off our prices.

What we do: tell you which program was current on the day of your quote, make sure the equipment we quote is on its eligible list, and give you the paperwork it asks for. Check the program yourself before you sign, so the number you plan around is the real one.
