The shop
The shop on 13th Avenue
An old brick storefront in the Cathedral district, with the original pressed-tin ceiling, a fir floor and four chairs facing one long mirror.
A few lines of history
Under the drop tiles
The building went up in 1912 as a dry goods store. Over the next hundred years it was a shoe repair, a bakery and, for a few winters, nothing at all.
When we took the lease, the ceiling was hidden behind cheap drop tiles. We pulled them down, found the pressed tin underneath, and had it cleaned and painted cream. The floor is the old fir, sanded back. The chairs are the newest things in the room.
