What we do

What happens in the chair

Short, barbered cuts and everything to do with a beard, for anyone who wants one.

  • Scissor cuts

Scissors over comb, for hair you want to push back, part, or grow out a little.

  • Tapers and fades

Low, mid or high, from a soft taper at the neckline to a skin fade, blended by hand.

  • Beard trims and shape-ups

Length taken down evenly, cheek and neck lines set, a warm towel to finish.

  • Hot towel shaves

Straight razor, two passes, hot towels and a cold one, in a reclined chair.

  • Father and son

Two chairs side by side, or one after the other in the same chair, so you leave together.

  • Seniors' mornings

A lower price for anyone 65 and over, Tuesday to Friday before noon.

Not on the menu: colour, perms or braids. We would rather send you to someone who does them every day than do them badly.

Walk-ins and requests

Walk in before noon

From opening until twelve, Tuesday to Saturday, the chairs are kept for walk-ins. Write your name on the slate by the door and take a seat. We go in order, and if all four chairs are busy we will tell you honestly how long it will be.

Afternoons by request

After noon we cut by request, so nobody sits around for an hour. Send a request or call, ask for a barber or take the first available, and we will call you back with a time.

The shave

The hot towel shave

About 45 minutes, and you lie back for most of it. People book it for weddings, for job interviews, and for no reason at all.

  1. Hot towelsTwo steamed towels soften the beard and warm the skin.
  2. Oil and latherPre-shave oil, then lather worked in with a brush, not sprayed from a can.
  3. Two passes with the razorWith the grain, then across it, with a fresh blade every time.
  4. Cold towel and balmCloses everything up. No alcohol splash unless you ask for one.
