Our day

From the first hello at 7:00 to the last coat zipped at 17:30.

Every room follows a posted routine. The times below are the toddler and preschool day; babies in the infant room keep their own schedule.

  1. Doors open

Families arrive any time until 9:00. Puzzles, books and quiet play while friends trickle in.

  2. Morning snack

Fruit, whole grains and milk, made in our kitchen.

  3. Circle time

Songs, names, the weather and a look at what's planned for the day.

  4. Outdoor play

Each room has its own time in the fenced yard: sand, bikes, the climber and the garden beds.

  5. Stories and hand-washing

Coats off, hands washed, a story while lunch is set out.

  6. Lunch

A hot meal cooked on site, eaten together at small tables.

  7. Naps and rest

Cots, blankets and dim lights. Children who don't sleep rest for half an hour, then play quietly.

  8. Afternoon snack

Something homemade, like banana muffins, cheese and crackers, or vegetables and dip.

  9. Outdoors or studio time

Back outside, or paint, playdough, music and building when the weather keeps us in.

  10. Home time begins

Quiet activities and a chat with whoever comes to pick up.

  11. Doors close

Please arrive by 17:20 so there's time for coats and a proper goodbye.

Babies keep their own clock

In the infant room, feeds and naps follow the times you give us. Educators note each baby's day on the board by the door, and you take home a written sheet.

Posted in every room

Each room's routine hangs by its door, so you always know where your child's day is at when you arrive.

Meals and snacks

Cooked here, every day.

Marisol, our cook, makes lunch and two snacks each day in the centre's kitchen. Menus run on a four-week cycle that changes with the seasons, and the current one is posted on the families board.

We're a nut-aware kitchen. If your child has an allergy or eats a special diet, bring us the plan from your doctor or tell us what your family eats, and we'll cook around it. Babies have bottles from home, with purées and soft finger foods from our kitchen when they're ready.

A week from the autumn menu

Naps

Rest that fits each age.

Infants

Babies sleep in their own crib in a quiet sleep room whenever they need to, and an educator checks on them every 15 minutes.

Toddlers

One long nap after lunch, on a cot with their own sheet and blanket, which we wash every week.

Preschoolers

A rest after lunch. Children who haven't fallen asleep after half an hour get up for books and quiet play.

Outdoor play

Outside twice a day, in every season.

Saskatoon winters are long, and we go out anyway. Children play in the fenced yard every morning and afternoon. We stay in when it's colder than −27 °C with the windchill, during heat warnings, or when wildfire smoke is in the air.

  • WinterSnowsuit, toque, mitts and warm boots. We keep spare mitts.
  • SpringSplash pants and rubber boots for puddle season.
  • SummerA sun hat. We supply sunscreen, shade and water.
  • FallLayers and a rain jacket for cool mornings.
