Contact lenses

Contact lens fittings, first pair or fiftieth

A fitting is its own visit, separate from the eye exam. It is where we choose the lens, check how it sits on your eye, and make sure you can handle it at home.

What happens at a fitting

We measure the curve and size of the front of your eye, then try lenses on. After a few minutes of settling, your optometrist looks at the fit under a microscope and checks your vision with the lenses in.

You go home with trial lenses to wear for a week or two, so you can see how they suit your days before you order a supply.

  • Daily disposables
  • Two-week and monthly
  • Toric lenses for astigmatism
  • Multifocal lenses

First-time wearers

Plan on an hour. Nobody leaves until they can put lenses in and take them out on their own.

In and out, with practice

We show you, then you try at a mirror while we watch. Most people need a few attempts, and that is fine.

Cleaning and the case

Which solution to use, why tap water stays away from lenses, and when to replace the case.

What to watch for

Redness, discomfort or blur that doesn't settle means lenses out and a call to us.

Follow-up visits

Short checks to see how the lenses sit after real wear. Visits in the first three months are part of the fitting fee.

  1. About one weekFit and vision after a week of trial lenses
  2. About one monthA final check before you order a supply
  3. Each yearA yearly contact lens check with your eye exam
