First visit

Your first visit, from the door to the receipt.

First appointments run about fifteen minutes longer than the session itself, so there's time to settle in, talk with your therapist and change without rushing.

Before you come

What to wear

Whatever is easy to take off

You'll undress to your own comfort level, in private, and stay under a sheet and blanket the whole time. Many people keep their underwear on. For a prenatal session, loose clothes are easiest.

Please skip perfume or cologne; the rooms are small and some clients are sensitive to scents.

Arrive ten minutes early

Time to land before you lie down

Ten minutes is enough to hang up your coat, use the washroom, fill in the intake form at the front desk and have a glass of water.

If you arrive later, your session still ends at its set time so the next client isn't kept waiting.

In the room

What happens, in order

You can ask questions at any step, and you can end the session whenever you want to.

  1. Intake, in person

Your therapist goes over the intake form with you and asks what you'd like from the session, which areas to work on and which to leave alone. We only take these details in person, never through the website.

  2. Draping and consent

The therapist steps out while you get onto the table. Only the area being worked on is uncovered, and they ask before working on areas like the glutes, chest or abdomen. You can change your mind about any area at any point.

  3. During the session

Talk as much or as little as you like. The therapist checks the pressure in the first few minutes and again whenever they move to a new area.

  4. Afterwards

Take your time getting up and dressed. Your receipt is emailed the same day, and you can ask for your next visit at the front desk or send a request online.

Pressure

More or less pressure? Just say so.

Pressure is your call the whole way through. Therapists check in, but you never have to wait to be asked, and nobody's feelings are hurt. Plain words work best. A few things clients often say:

  • "A little firmer, please."
  • "Lighter on that spot."
  • "Can you stay on my shoulders longer?"
  • "Please leave my feet out."
  • "That's too warm."
  • "I'd like to stop here."

If it might be a new injury

We don't diagnose. If you've had a recent fall or accident, or a pain that's new or getting worse, please see a physician or physiotherapist first, then come back to us when they've given you the go-ahead.
