FAQ

Questions people ask at the counter

Matted coats, vaccinations, timing and cancellations. If yours isn't here, call or text and a groomer will answer.

My dog's coat is matted. Can you still groom them?

Yes. We check the coat at drop-off and show you what we find. Light mats we can brush out, at $15 for each 15 minutes, and only with your okay.

Tight mats close to the skin hurt to brush out, so for those we clip the coat short underneath and start fresh. It grows back in six to eight weeks, and regular grooms keep it from happening again.

Which vaccinations do you need?

For dogs, current rabies and DHPP. We recommend bordetella too, since dogs share the room. For cats, rabies and FVRCP.

Bring the record or a photo of it to the first visit, or ask your clinic to email it to hello@wagtailgrooming.example.

How long does a groom take?

A bath and tidy is about an hour and a half. A full groom is two to three hours for most dogs, and big double coats on a de-shed can take three. Split appointments run longer on the clock, with a rest in the middle.

We text you as soon as your dog is ready. Please pick up within about 30 minutes so the wait in a crate stays short.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give us 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or move a groom, so we can offer the table to someone else. Inside 48 hours there's a $25 fee. If you don't show up at all, we'll ask for half the groom price before the next booking.

If your dog is sick or the roads are bad, call us. It's Saskatoon in January; we understand.

Do you sedate pets or use medicated shampoos?

No to both. We don't sedate, and we don't use medicated products. If your pet has a skin, ear or health concern, we'll point it out and suggest you see your vet, who can treat it.

Can I stay while my dog is groomed?

For puppy introductions, yes, please do. For regular grooms most dogs settle faster once their person has left, so we'll usually send you on your way and text you a photo instead.

How often should my dog be groomed?

Curly and doodle coats every six to eight weeks. Long, silky coats every six to ten. Double coats mostly need a de-shed in spring and fall, when they blow their coat. Short coats are fine with a bath and tidy every two to three months.

Do you groom cats on other days?

No. Cats are Tuesdays only, when there are no dogs in the building. It makes a big difference to how relaxed they are.
