Saltbox Skin Studio

Hello, I am Maren, an esthetician. Saltbox is one treatment room above a shop on Lamplight Lane, and I see one client at a time. No waiting room, no pressure to buy a thing.

Facials and brow care, Tuesday to Saturday, Charlottetown.

A client lying back with her hair in a white headband while an esthetician brushes on a clay face mask

Facials

Every facial starts with a talk about your skin and ends with a plain note on what I did. Prices are in Canadian dollars, before HST. Not sure which to pick? Book the Custom Facial and I will adjust on the day.

Custom Facial

60 min

My main treatment. I look at your skin in good light, hear what you use and what has changed lately, then build the hour from there.

  1. A cleanse, then a look under the lamp
  2. An exfoliation chosen for your skin, gentle every time
  3. Light extractions only if you want them
  4. A mask, while your hands and shoulders get a massage
$115

Quiet Facial

45 min

For skin that feels tired or touchy. A gentle cleanse, a soft exfoliation, a calming mask and a slow face and shoulder massage. No extractions.

$85

Back Facial

60 min

Your shoulders and upper back get the care your face does: a cleanse, a gentle exfoliation, a mask, then a massage. You are draped throughout.

$110

Long Custom Facial

90 min

The Custom Facial with more time in every step, plus a hand and arm massage and a longer mask. Worth it when you can slow right down.

$155

Brows and lash tints

Brow shaping, brow tints and lash tints.

StartArchEnd

Mapped before it is shaped

Before any hair is touched, I mark three points: where your brow starts, where it arches and where it ends. You see it in the mirror and say yes, or ask me to move a dot.

First tint? I do a small patch test behind your ear at least a day before. A tint can cause a reaction in some people, so I do not skip it, even if you have had one elsewhere.

Your first visit

Your first visit, in three steps.

  1. A talk first

Ten minutes with the lights up: what you use, what has flared lately, what you hope to get from the visit. If anything looks like it needs a doctor, I will say so before we begin.

  2. Lights low, phone off

You lie back under a warm blanket. I work in slow, gentle steps and tell you what is coming next. Say stop, softer or skip at any point and I will.

  3. A plain note to take home

I write down what I used and how to look after your skin for the week. There is nothing to buy on the day. If you ask what I used, I will give you the name.

Skip these before you come

  • Three days before: retinol, glycolic or salicylic acids, scrubs, and any face waxing or threading elsewhere. They leave skin touchy.
  • Sunburn or peeling: phone and I will move your time at no charge.
  • Isotretinoin or a strong prescription cream: tell me when you ask for a time. Some steps get left out.
  • A first tint: ask for the patch test when you request a time.
  • What to wear: something you can lie back in. Makeup is fine, I take it off.

What we don’t do

Skin care here is for comfort and upkeep. If something looks like it needs a medical eye, I will tell you kindly and I will not treat over it. Here is where each of these belongs.

  • Injectables, lasers, microneedling and strong peels

A medical aesthetics clinic with a physician or nurse practitioner. Ask who does the treatment and what training they have.

  • Rashes, eczema, rosacea flares, acne that scars or hurts

Your family doctor or nurse practitioner first, then a dermatologist if they refer you.

  • A mole or spot that has changed, bled or itches

Your family doctor, soon. Please do not wait for your next facial.

  • Permanent brow tattooing

A permanent makeup artist, who will have their own training and health inspection.

  • Prescription creams, and advice on treating a skin condition

    Your pharmacist or doctor.
