What we do, and what each visit involves

Plain descriptions of our services for dogs and cats, so you know what happens before you arrive. Your veterinarian will explain the plan for your own pet at the visit.

Exam $95 · vaccines from $45

Wellness exams and vaccines

Once a year for most adult pets, twice a year for seniors. A wellness exam is a chance to catch small changes early and to ask the questions that have been building up.

  • A full physical: eyes, ears, mouth, heart, lungs, skin, joints and weight
  • Core vaccines for dogs (distemper combination, rabies) and cats (FVRCP, rabies)
  • Lifestyle vaccines such as Lyme or leptospirosis when your dog's routine calls for them
  • Parasite prevention that fits the season in Waterloo Region
  • A written summary to take home, with the date of the next visit
Series of 3 to 4 visits

Puppies and kittens

Young animals need a few visits close together in their first months. We keep these appointments a little longer, because there is a lot to cover and no need to rush a small, curious patient.

  • Vaccine series every three to four weeks until about 16 weeks old
  • Deworming and a stool check
  • Talk about food, house training, nail trims and handling
  • Microchip, if you would like one
  • Planning for a spay or neuter at the right age

Cleaning from $650

Dental care

Most of a tooth sits below the gum, so a proper cleaning needs your pet asleep and still. Every dental procedure here is done under general anaesthesia, with a technician watching breathing, heart rate, blood pressure and temperature from start to finish.

  • Blood work beforehand to check that anaesthesia suits your pet
  • Scaling above and below the gum line, then polishing
  • Dental X-rays of the whole mouth
  • Extractions when a tooth is too damaged to keep, with local freezing and pain relief
  • We call you during the procedure if we find something that changes the estimate
Day surgery, home the same evening

Surgery

Spays, neuters and soft-tissue surgery such as lump removals, wound repairs and bladder stone removal. Your pet comes in the morning and usually goes home before we close.

  • An exam and pre-anaesthetic blood work
  • An IV line and fluids during the procedure
  • Pain relief before, during and after
  • A warm, quiet recovery kennel, checked often
  • A recheck about ten days later, included in the price

Diagnostics

When your pet is unwell, the answer often sits in a blood sample or an X-ray. Running them here means less waiting for you and a quicker plan.

  • In-house blood counts, chemistry panels and urine tests
  • Digital X-rays, reviewed with you on screen
  • Samples that need a reference lab are sent out daily
  • Results explained in plain words, with a copy for your records

What we refer elsewhere

We don't see exotic pets or farm animals, and we refer specialty orthopaedic surgery such as fracture and cruciate repair to a referral hospital. When that happens we send the records ahead and keep caring for your pet here for everything else. Request a visit
