A one-dentist office in Regina
For people who have been putting off the dentist.
I'm Dr. Amira Saleh. Most of the people I see haven't been in for years, and many dread it. Here, appointments run longer, you hear what will happen before it happens, and you can stop at any moment.
Not ready for treatment? Start with a talk-first visit. Nothing goes in your mouth.
Three things that are different here
-
We talk first
Your first visit can be a 30-minute conversation in my office, not the chair. You tell me what happened last time and what you want. No exam unless you ask for one.
-
Raise your hand, I stop
We agree on the signal before we start. Lift your left hand and I take everything out of your mouth and wait. You don't have to explain why.
-
Time for breaks
I book a first exam for 90 minutes, not 45. That leaves room to sit up, rinse, stretch or walk around the room, as often as you need.
Also in every room: noise-cancelling headphones and your own music, a weighted blanket, a ceiling screen, and a hand mirror if you want to watch.
What a first visit looks like
This is a first exam, step by step. If you choose the talk-first visit, we stop after step 2 and you go home.
- 0:00
You arrive
A short form, a glass of water or tea, and a quiet corner. If the waiting room is too much, we can text you when the room is ready and you wait in your car.
- 0:05
We talk, sitting up
In a regular chair, face to face. What worries you, what's happened before, what you'd like today. We agree on your stop signal.
- 0:25
I show you everything
The mirror, the small probe, the X-ray sensor. You can hold them. I tell you what each one feels like.
- 0:35
The exam
I look at each tooth and your gums, and take X-rays only if you agree. I say out loud what I'm doing as I do it.
- 1:05
What I found, in plain words
Back in the regular chair. I show you the photos and X-rays, and we go through your options, from "do nothing for now" up.
- 1:20
A written plan with fees
You leave with the plan and the cost on paper. No treatment happens on the same day unless you ask for it.
Treatments I do, and what they cost
Fee ranges are based on the Saskatchewan dental fee guide. Your exact cost comes after an exam, in writing, before anything starts.
| Treatment | What it involves | Fee range |
|---|---|---|
| Talk-first visit | 30 minutes in my office. Questions, no exam, no treatment. | No charge |
| First exam | Full exam, X-rays if you agree, photos, and a written plan. About 90 minutes. | $190 – $320 |
| Checkup | A regular exam once you're a patient here. | $45 – $80 |
| Cleaning with the hygienist | Scaling and polishing, at your pace. Longer if it's been a while. | $170 – $290 |
| Fillings | Tooth-coloured fillings, priced by size and surfaces. | $160 – $420 per tooth |
| Crowns | Two visits, a temporary in between. Lab fee included. | $1,250 – $1,750 per tooth |
| Simple tooth removal | A tooth that comes out in one piece. Anything harder, I refer. | $180 – $320 |
| Something hurts | An exam for one problem, and relief the same day where I can. | $75 – $120 for the exam |
Fees and insurance
Direct billing
I bill most insurance plans directly, so you usually pay only the part your plan doesn't cover. Every plan is different, so bring your plan details to the first visit and we'll check them together.
Before bigger work
For a crown or anything over a few hundred dollars, we can send your insurer an estimate first. You'll know what they cover before you decide.
Canadian Dental Care Plan
If you have a CDCP card, ask us whether your treatment is covered. We'll look it up with you before booking.
Paying
Debit, Visa and Mastercard. For a crown, you can split the cost over the two visits.
What I don't do
Sedation
I don't offer sedation of any kind: no pills to calm you, no IV, no laughing gas. I numb the area with local freezing, and we go slowly. If you need sedation to get through treatment, I'll tell you plainly and point you to Regina offices that offer it.
Complex cases
Wisdom teeth that need surgery, implants, braces, and difficult root canals go to dentists who do them every day. I refer you to someone I trust, send your X-rays and notes ahead so you don't tell your story twice, and see you again afterwards for your regular care.

The first and last appointments of the day are the quietest. Ask for one if a busy room makes it harder.
About me
I opened this office because I kept meeting people who had stayed away for ten years after one bad appointment.
I'm a general dentist, and I've worked in Regina since 2014. I see fewer patients a day than most offices, on purpose. That's what pays for the longer appointments and the time to explain.
I work with one hygienist and one front-desk person. You'll see the same three faces every time you come in.

Tell us a little. Our front desk calls to confirm a time. Nothing is booked until we've spoken, and you can still change your mind then.

Questions people ask before coming in
It's been over ten years. Will you lecture me?
No. I'll tell you what I see and what your options are. How you got here isn't something you have to explain or apologise for.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. A partner, a friend, a parent. They can sit in the room the whole time.
What if I panic halfway through?
Raise your hand. I stop, take everything out, and sit you up if you want. We carry on when you're ready, or another day.
Will the freezing needle hurt?
I use a numbing gel first and inject slowly, telling you before each step. Most people feel a pinch and some pressure. If it's too much, use the stop signal.
Do I have to get X-rays?
Not at the talk-first visit. At an exam I'll explain why I'd like them, and you decide.
What if I need to cancel?
Call us a day ahead if you can. Life happens, and we won't charge you for a missed first visit.
