Heat pump installers in Halifax

Heat pumps sized for your house, not guessed from its floor area.

We install ducted and ductless cold-climate heat pumps, and only heat pumps. Every job starts in your home with a heat-loss calculation, so the system you pay for is the one your house needs.

What we do, and what we leave to others

A small crew that does one thing well. If your job sits outside this list, we will tell you on the first call and point you to someone who does it.

We install

  • Ducted heat pumps tied into your furnaceAn outdoor unit and a coil on your existing furnace. The heat pump carries most of the winter and the furnace takes the coldest nights.
  • Ductless mini-splits, single and multi-headOne wall head for an open main floor, or two to five heads on one outdoor unit for bedrooms, a basement or an addition.
  • Cold-climate models rated to -25 °CThe units we fit keep heating through a Nova Scotia cold snap instead of handing everything back to the baseboards.

We don't

  • Service or repair oil furnacesKeep your oil technician for the furnace. We can still put a ductless system in an oil-heated home.
  • Ductwork for new buildsNew-construction duct design belongs with your builder's HVAC contractor. We work with ducts that are already there.

Why sizing matters

The wrong size costs you every winter, not just on install day

Most quotes size a heat pump from square footage and a rule of thumb. Two houses of the same size can need very different systems once you count windows, insulation, air leaks and which way the house faces.

Too small

Backup heat runs all January

The unit can't keep up on cold nights, so baseboards or the furnace take over and your power bill looks like nothing changed.

Sized to the house

Long, quiet, even running

The heat pump runs steadily at low speed, which is where it is most efficient, and covers the house down to the cold nights it was sized for.

Too big

Short cycles and clammy summers

An oversized unit switches on and off, wears faster, costs more up front and does a poor job of pulling humidity out in July.

The home assessment

About ninety minutes in your house, then a written heat-loss report

We walk the house with you, measure what matters and ask how you actually use each room. You get the numbers we used, not just a model name and a price.

  • Room-by-room heat loss, worked out from your walls, windows and attic
  • A look at your ducts, furnace and electrical panel
  • Where the outdoor unit and the indoor heads can sensibly go
  • A written quote with two options when there is a real choice to make

The assessment is $150, credited back in full if we do the install.
