Key cutting and locks · Saint John, NB

Keys cut while you wait.

A one-person counter on Wharf Row. Bring the key, watch it get cut, pay at the till. On weekday afternoons the counter comes to your door for rekeys and lock changes.

Open Tuesday to Saturday. 112 Wharf Row, the green door with the key sign.

At the counter: bring it in, we cut it while you stand there.

Keys cut
House keys, padlock keys and mailbox keys, usually in a couple of minutes. Cut from your key, not from a number scribbled on a napkin.
High-security keys
Some, by card only. Bring the key card that came with the lock. No card, no copy: that is what the card is for.
Padlocks and deadbolts
A small wall of both. We key a new deadbolt to the key already on your ring, so one key opens both doors.
Rekeying
Take a cylinder out, bring it in a bag. New pins, new keys, same lock. A single cylinder is done while you wait; a handful by the end of the day.

House calls, weekday afternoons.

Monday to Friday, 1:30 to 5:00, by request. Saint John, Rothesay and Quispamsis. You tell us what you have; we phone back to settle an afternoon.

What we do at your door

  • Rekey the locks you already have, so every old key stops working. Moving in, a flatmate leaving, a lost set.
  • Change a lock for a new one. A few deadbolts and knob sets ride in the van.
  • Fit a deadbolt you bought yourself.
  • Make the front and back door take the same key.
  • Cut spare keys for the new locks before we leave.

This is not a lockout service. A request here reaches the counter, not a night phone. If you are locked out right now, see "What we don't do" below.

What we don't do.

  • Lockouts after hours. We are a counter and a weekday afternoon service, not a night line.
  • Car keys and fobs.
  • Safes.

Who to call instead

Locked out now, or after 5? Call a mobile locksmith who works nights. Ask for the price before they set out, and for a business name you can look up.

Car keys: the dealer or an automotive locksmith. Safes: a safe technician.

We keep a short printed list at the counter. Nobody pays us to be on it.
